Week One

Let the travel begin! After a few weeks of suffering in freezing Montreal weather, Will, Ally, Isabel and I finally hopped on a plane destined for Melbourne for our semester abroad. Connecting with our friend Alexis, we all explored the city and looked for an apartment to live in during classes. Ally, Isabel and I then split from the group and took a quick flight to Auckland, where we began our month in New Zealand.

The city

Like London, Melbourne is a large westernized city with a diverse lot of interesting architecture. We stayed at a hostel just South-West of the UniMelb campus that had an amazing view of the city. Just a few blocks away, the bustling Queen Victoria Market was filled with fresh ripe fruit.

The crew

As one should, once we arrived in our new city, we disobeyed the signage and did our own thing, climbing fences and blocking doors. In the first photo, from the left, we have Vince (our hostel room mate from Holland), Ally, Isabel, Alexis, Will and myself.

New Zealand

Arriving in Auckland, we stayed two nights with Diana and Ian, some family friends with an amazing farmhouse north of the city. Packing in a short beach trip to Cheltenham and some amazing food, wine, hospitality and board games, these two days alone were enough to make us fall in love with the country.
